Welcome to our Medical Mission to Chimbote Peru |
|
We are a group of Medical Professionals and missionaries traveling to Peru for a mission to help the women, children, and families in the poorest of poor area in Chimbote, Peru. The mission area was started by Father Jack Davis 34 years ago. He began ministering to the poorest of the poor in 1974 and is currently the pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish in Chimbote. He was ordained a priest in 1969 and made servicing the poor his life mission. Sister Peggy Byrne traveled to Chimbote in 1981 and stayed in Chimbote with Father Jack to improve the education programs, religious education, Human rights Office, social works and other programs for the elderly and disabled. Our group will be working with the mission to help with medical supplies, buying beds, and meeting the basic needs for the mission. |
|
Our plans
are to set up a triage clinic which will treat, and screen for further
medical missions. We will have a women’s health educator and work with
women and children’s health. We will establish a program where
we will visit homes, accessing basic needs such as water, food, clothing, building material
for homes, and distributing beds, mattresses, pillows, and blankets.
Most families will sleep on dirt floors, or 4-5 children in a twin bed.
The beds will be purchased form a factory in Chimbote where the handicap
will make them. Many children eat one meal a day if they can afford to
do so. We will be evaluating needs and helping the people have the
opportunity to use the soup kitchens, have a place to sleep, shoes for
their feet, and clothes for their dignity. |
|
Your
donations will go towards medical supplies, beds and materials, building
supplies, shoes or clothing, or even water. Here is an example of what it costs to do the work we do. Medical
Supplies
$450 for 500-700 medication treatments 40-50
beds/materials
$4000-$5000 ($100 for a bed/materials) |
|
All
of the volunteers are paying for their own trips, taking vacation time
from work, and giving their heart and souls to minister to the poorest
of the poor. |
